Day 18 Castrojeriz -Fromista

Well, the day started out innocent enough. It was a 25km day and I decided to chicken out and have my pack sent on to the night’s albergue that Jessie had kindly arranged for us all.

We left Castrojeriz and instantly started to climb up a lung-bustingly steep hill (but thankfully only for 30 mins or so). A slight drop down the other side and things levelled out to quite a pleasant walk through a couple of villages (with the inevitable stop for a smoke and a coke).

After 20km we were in Boadilla del Camino and had 5km left to go. I decided to go to the rear of the group and throw my headphones on for the first time for a bit of music I spent an hour walking along a lovely flat path, flanked by fields to the left and a canal to the right.

When we arrived at Fromista the was a slight mix up, we didn’t know exactly where we had booked and had no idea where our bags had been sent to. It turns out the bags landed at the municipal albergue so we grabbed them and were instantly accosted by a very angry women. I explained there had been a mistake and the bags had been delivered the by accident but she insisted we each pay 2euro for the pleasure of having them left there. Jessie caved in instantly and paid, I on the other hand decided in a less generous approach and told her it was a mistake and I wasn’t paying. The other members sided with me and we walked away viewing never to darken their door again. (And I advise you to do the same, the woman was horrible)

We eventually found our albergue and settled and in. A couple of drinks and a pilgrim meal for 5euro and the day was as good as done.

Back to the room to eat chocolate and assess today’s adventures, (a couple of us have a few niggling pains). and no doubt to compare blisters etc.

Although the terrain wasn’t particularly challenging I feel that a few of us had a difficult day today. It definitely had its ups and downs but on the plus side Jessie paid 2euro to an offensive angry woman and somehow that makes me feel better.

Let’s hope tomorrow is a more positive experience.

Did I mention Jessie gave away 2euro?

  2. You really don’t like the 25km days do you bro ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚! No doubt with your expert powers of persuasion tomorrow will be at least 5km less for your tired feet ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜xx

  3. That is some hill, Andy. I timed myself. 17 minutes, with a patented method of breathing: in, in, out, out. I was puskered. Translation: it took a lot out of me. But I tell you, just wait for O Cebrero! And tomorrow you will be right as rain, enjoy.
